KindL ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application for iOS that helps couples strengthen their relationship through daily challenges, shared memories, and guided activities. References to "KindL," "the app," or "the service" refer to our iOS application and related backend services.

2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated as you use the app.
Account Information
- Name and email address when you create an account
- Password (stored as a secure hash — we never store your plaintext password)
- Profile photo (optional)
Relationship Profile
- Partner's name and information you choose to share
- Relationship anniversary date
- Love language preferences and quiz responses
- Relationship goals and preferences you set
Content You Create
- Photos you upload to your scrapbook and memories
- Journal entries and written reflections
- Challenge completions and activity reviews
- AI chat messages when using the Scrapbook AI editor
Usage Information
- Features you use and how frequently
- Challenges completed, activities reviewed, journeys unlocked
- In-app purchase history and subscription status
- Device type, iOS version, and app version
- Crash reports and error logs
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the KindL app and its features
- Personalize your experience (e.g., recommended activities based on your preferences)
- Process in-app purchases and manage your subscription
- Send important notices such as changes to this policy or service updates
- Respond to your support requests and questions
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app (using aggregated, non-identifiable data)
We do not use your personal content (photos, journal entries, or relationship data) to train AI models or for advertising purposes.
4. AI Features
KindL includes an AI-powered Scrapbook Editor. When you use this feature, the following information is sent to Anthropic (the provider of the Claude AI model) to generate responses:
- Your chat messages within the AI editor
- Your scrapbook layout data (template name, photo count, month/year)
- Memory titles and brief journal text snippets from the page being edited
Anthropic receives this content only to generate your AI response. Anthropic does not use API data to train their models by default. Anthropic's full privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.
We do not store your AI chat history beyond what is necessary to maintain context within your current session.
What Anthropic does NOT receive: your name, email address, profile photo, device information, or purchase data.
5. Photos and Media
Photos you upload to KindL (memories, scrapbook pages, profile photo) are stored securely on Cloudinary, a cloud media platform. Cloudinary stores your images and generates optimized versions for display within the app. Your photos are private and accessible only to you and your partner. We do not share, sell, or use your photos for any purpose beyond displaying them to you within the app.
Stock photos used for decorations (sourced from Pexels) are cached on Amazon Web Services (AWS S3). These are not user-generated — no personal photos or user content are stored in AWS.
Accessing your photo library requires explicit permission, which you can grant or revoke at any time in your iOS Settings.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
With Your Partner
When you connect with a partner in KindL, certain information is shared between your accounts as required to provide the shared experience (e.g., completed challenges, scrapbook photos, journey progress).
Service Providers
We work with the following trusted third-party services to operate the app. Each entry specifies exactly what data they receive and what they do not:

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may only use it to provide services to us.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of KindL, our users, or the public.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes. Backups may retain data for up to 90 days after deletion.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability: Request an export of your data in a portable format
- Opt-out of notifications: Manage push notifications in your iOS Settings at any time

9. Children's Privacy
KindL is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately. 10. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- TLS encryption for all data transmitted between the app and our servers
- Encrypted storage for sensitive data at rest
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Access controls limiting which personnel can access user data
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. International Users
KindL is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using KindL, you consent to this transfer.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice within the app or sending an email to the address on file. Your continued use of KindL after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
